Note: the countdown in this topic is not exactly the same as the final list. I forgot to download Samlion's list. At the end of the countdown I've posted the changes. Lists in the OP are the final lists.

It's pretty great, I'm surprised not more people voted for it; if timmy had submitted a list, it would be even higher. I'll say that the film is roughly divided into three parts: a joyous, Malick-y "unexamined life is not worth living"-friends road trip, a puzzle, escape-imprisonment thriller, and new territory-exploration action. PdA has written a nice review, where he compares it to films such as 'Primer'.

Fixed.
My mistake on Google. It was the 3rd hit for "Mishen 2011 screenshot".

Average list-length was 84, btw. Maybe I should have chosen a higher half-life (I used 25). Ah well, I always like to give advantage to movies loved by few instead of liked by more.

As it should be. I'd rather see films in lists that two people think is the 5th best then one that 10 people think is the 65th best.

Personally I didn't vote for those. I would rather call it fantasy. And zombie what-if are usually horror.

A question: Did Idiocracy experience a massive boost in its IMDb rating following Trump's win? I don't recall it having a respectable 6.6 rating a couple of years ago...

No, that's a reasonable half life for 84 film average length. It's nearly 10 points for the 84th film and 1.5 pts for the 150th film.

Also, only one other person voted for The Stepford Wives?

I wonder just 3 more users voted for this genius work.
This Sci-Fi idea is so big and in my eyes and beyond some things, that are exposed in "the matrix" movie. But maybe toooo abstract for regular audience.

By the Way - I am very pleased by now, that it is TOP250.
Even so it came the in terms of SciFi (and many wayes more) crappy Deathpool is in the list as well.

Much much underrated. As i did myself some years before.
I also just started to see it's quality after rewatching it. After the third time, I had a true revelation about what this movie really is about. :worship:

Expected. We live in a golden age for Sci-Fi imo.

The amount of high budget Sci-Fi (and indie / arthouse in its wake) has never been this high.

not enough Rollerball love.

I almost put 2010 on my list. it's pretty good. clearly pales in comparison to Kubrick, but a decent film in its own right.

Not sure what Mathias meant. "new stuff" as in recent movies or as in new entries. The previous list is 4 years old, so there are a lot of new entries in the list, because the userbase has changed a lot.

And yes, this is the golden age for Sci-Fi so a lot of recent titles indeed.

I would suggest Another Earth or one of the other from the Brit Marling / Mike Cahill / Zal Batmanglij films.
