new voters.
From what I saw there are definitely some interesting shifts, though it's still recognizable.

Windows 10 decided that now was a good time to force an update and restart :( If it does it quickly enough I'll post the first batch soon, otherwise I'll just start in 8 hours when I wake up.

Posting from my phone. Says 90%. I really should be in bed. I'll give it a few more minutes.

Wow, I'm extremely surprised at Nosferatu being so low. I would have expected it to be in the top 500 or so. But maybe I'm just way off about it's popularity (as I'm the highest voter for it aswell).

I am happy to accept part of the blame for that. Had I submitted 500 films myself, Herzog's Nosferatu would have liked made the cut, but I only got around to submitting 250 movies before the deadline.

On a side note, am I right that this list will not become an Official List? If so, I'm curious about the logic behind 500<400 being Official, yet not an all-time top 1000 canon that will likely rival TSP as a consensus compilation of the greatest films ever made.

sol: exactly because it rivals existing lists, we already have them. 500<400 is something unique.

sol: exactly because it rivals existing lists, we already habe big best of all times list. 500<400 is something unique.
Mmm. I suppose that makes some sense. It's just that the films that I will most likely have my eye on here are the ones with over 400 checks and yet are not on TSP or any other greatest list canons. I mean, I have never even heard of #1001(NEW) Nostalgia de la luz (2010) which has over 900 checks and therefore won't qualify for 500<400. Hmm.

We have no say over which lists become official on icheckmovies.com. We are not an official forum. It is up to the list moderators of icheckmovies.com to choose new official lists (most of the list mods are members of our forum too).

500<400 was probably chosen because it's a cool idea which is different to anything else and it directly relates to icheckmovies.com.

I'd like to see our favourite movies list become official as we clearly have links to icheckmovies.com. They already have a top list from Reddit, Fok and FilmTotaal and I don't think any of them have any involvement with icheckmovies.com by this point and one of the forums is almost dead I think. There's also a list from moviesense.nl. I can't remember, what is that site? I can't find it.

Edit: The Western list is from the now defunct IMDb boards and, I never realised until now but the Spiritual list is from an arts & faith forum. What is that forum? I had no idea that was the source.

I don't expect to see our list become official but it would be great.

Right. I suppose this is what I find most confusing as a newbie to this forum.

There is a thread titled 'New Lists' in which several users are clearly conversing with other users that do I have a say. All a little mysterious, I suppose, for me as an outsider looking in.

Sorry - I'm still getting the hang of how everything here works (but I'm loving the experiencing so far).

Really amazed that I had not heard of the film before. I guess it just never got mentioned in the circles that I travelled in during my IMDb days.

Surprised not to see my name under Nostalgia for the Light, which I love, but then I remembered last year I revised my list & made it much shorter, with documentaries being one of the things I cut (purely on the basis that I find them so hard to rank in comparison to fiction). I think next time I'll make it bigger again and have it part ranked, part unranked.

It's a long story. Looking at old blog posts, I think icheckmovies.com was set up in May 2009.

Mightysparks and I set up this forum in May 2011. It was originally called "The Unofficial iCheckMovies forum". We set it up with the permission of the owners of icheckmovies.com (Dutch guys-Piet, Erik and Marijn) who told us that they had no intention of setting up an official forum. Originally, we wanted our forum to become official but it became clear that it wouldn't happen and we also realised that there are advantages of the forum being unofficial as well.

I believe that Erik and Piet then left icheckmovies so Marijn became the sole runner of the site. I'm not 100% sure but I think that's what happened. Marijn then set up an "official forum" for icheckmovies. That forum, however, is nothing like this forum. It's more like a "helpdesk". People post about bugs, new lists etc. We already had those conversations on here for years but I guess Marijn wanted an "official" place for those discussions. Movie talk doesn't take place on there and I believe that there is a stickied topic about our forum over on the official one but I rarely check so I can't remember exactly how it works.

We then changed to "the icm forum" and created the domain name www.icmforum.com (having previously just had the standard s15.zetaboards name).

The list mods are: DreCosby, joachimt, Knaldskalle, mjf314, PeacefulAnarchy, SanderO and WalterNeff. I believe they have (private?) discussions about which lists will become official. All of them are members on here apart from DreCosby. They decide amongst themselves which lists will become official although presumably they use some of the discussions from here to influence their decisions. I really don't know 100% how it all works.

Sometimes, if new lists are coming, you will see the above posters hinting at lists etc. because they are the only ones that know. Then there is usually a blog post on icheckmovies.com with an announcement of the new lists. I assume Marijn writes the blog posts but I don't know.

Mightysparks and I are only involved in terms of being admins on here. We aren't on the official forum and we have no say on which new lists become official.

So, there's www.icheckmovies.com, www.icmforum.com and a helpdesk/official icheckmovies forum...confusing?

it's a 2010 film but I don't think it got much distribution outside festivals until 2012 so it's a bit newer than it appears.

Thanks for sharing. That certainly does demystify things.

It also explains why I keep getting weird ICM Forum emails about Bugs and Sion Sono films. Now, I realise that those emails are being sent from the icheckmovies forum rather than this forum.
