Thanks for hosting, Samar. I'm in.

You should add the soon-to-be-official Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time
and some unofficial anime lists - others will doubtless make suggestions.

anime isn't really my thing but others will step up. Meanwhile you can search for "Anime" and then click on Lists tab. It seems to produce everything animation-related but here are a few:

100 Anime (BFI Screen Guides)
500 Essential Anime Movies
Ofuji Noburo Award for Best Animated Film
Japan Academy Awards' Excellent Animations

Also here are some French animated films which will also work for the French challenge:\

April and the Extraordinary World / Avril et le monde truqué (Fr 2015)
Phantom Boy (Fr 15, 84m)
My life as a zucchini / Ma vie de Courgette (Fr 16)
La tortue rouge / The red turtle (Fr/Belg/Jap 16)
Jack et la mécanique du coeur /Jack and the cuckoo-clock heart (Fr 13)
Un monstre à Paris / A monster in Paris (Fr 11)
Tout en haut du monde / Long way north (Fr 15)

These are from my list of unwatched films - No time to round up watched ones just now.

Count me in.

Not sure how many I'll get through as I have a bunch of live action stuff to still watch for the Canon Doubling Challenge, however, I did already get a start this morning (yes, it is already April here for me).

Hopefully, The LEGO Batman movie will be released on home video this month. The cinemas are only showing the dubbed version here now.

01. Sing (2016)
02. Fire and Ice (1983)
03. Fritz the Cat (1972)

Put me down for this. I haven't watched anything in months, but I have a shit-ton of Disney and Warner shorts that would make a good way back in (haven't watched any of them for a few years either).

Okay, I'll watch a few, starting off with recent 3rd tire feature releases....

1. Tangled: Before Ever After (2017, Tom Caulfield & Stephen Sandoval) - 4/10
--- Disney reviving Rapunzel's hair for a new animated TV-show for their Disney Channel kicking it off with a hour long prologue to fill in the gap what's happened since their excellent Tangled (2010). In no way does it capture the magic of their 2010 movie, but for a TV animation it's fast paced, both in dialogue and action. Perfectly alright to build up the hype for the series.

2. Smeshariki. Legenda o Zolotom Drakone [Kikoriki. Legend of the Golden Dragon] (2016, Denis Chernov) - 4/10
--- Almost a good Russian animation movie featuring the cute Smeshariki characters, which was a TV-series for about a decade. Fits in nicely with the other cute animation films that floods the market these days. So in that regard, if you're overdosing on cute and energetic creatures, you'll probably hate this one. If hungry for more Minions, Angry Birds, whatever other clones out there, here's another one for you! I can handle the adorableness. Can you....?

3. Monster High: Electrified (2017, Avgousta Zourelidi, Jun Falkenstein & René Veilleux) - 2/10
--- Monster High is like Barbie in monster costumes, and their video releases are pretty much similar to those of Barbie as well. I'm way off the demographic for this, but my 6 year old girl was glued. The actual animation was well done, surprisingly so for a video release. The plot on the other hand.... pointless on most levels. Girly stuff...

4. The Swan Princess: Royally Undercover (2017, Richard Rich) - 3/10
--- I'm probable being too kind to the 7th installment of The Swan Princess, but at least there is some attempt at giving the people character and create a new adventure. Here trying to expose a gold digging Don Juan. Where it fails is the animation. They were already behind the other companies with a franchise to protect in quality, and they're still steps behind other straight-to-video companies operating in the US. If you like The Swan Princess, you might as well keep following their releases, but remember by now it's really 3rd tire.

...And away we go!

1. Dragonball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan (1993)
2. Dragonball Z: Broly - Second Coming (1994)
3. Dragonball Z: Bio Broly (1994)
Man, it's been forever since I've seen any DBZ. These were bad. The first one was way too goofy and the other two featured mostly Goten & Trunks, which is not cool. Broly is also one of the lamest DBZ villains with one of the lamest back stories.

4. Ninja bugei-chô (1967)
Interesting almost audiobook slideshow from Nagisa Oshima (Of In The Realm of the Senses). Little hard to focus due to the nature of the movie though.

5. Moana (2016)
Affable Disney movie with some catchy songs and mostly likable characters with a couple of nice subversions of usual Disney tropes. Overall, it's a little light on stakes and too straightforward in its narrative though.

6a. Classic Anime Shorts Set: Kobutori (1929), Norakuro gochô (1934), Tengu taiji (1934), Koneko no rakugaki (1957)
It's always interesting to see how Japanese animation ran in parallel (or something diverges from) American animation.

6b. Disney Shorts Set: Inner Workings (2016), Piper (2016), Gone Fishing (2017), Finding Dory: Marine Life Interviews (2016)
Inner Workings was a nice, light short with some interesting retro drawing styles. Piper has some absolutely gorgeous animation with a neat little story. The other two are unnecessary fluff though.

7. Micro teukgongdae Daiyateuron 5 (1985) a.k.a. Space Transformers
When a giant Voltron rip-off robot rips open a starship in the middle of a firefight and hurls crew members from the ship screaming into the void of space in the first 10 minutes, you know you're in for something special. And that something special is an atrociously dubbed, poorly animated Korean crapfest of which the likes I've rarely come across.

8. Politicks & Poultry Shorts Set (Thunderbean Animation): Jungle Bungles (1928), It's a Living (1957), Topsy TV (1957), Studie Nr. 11 (1932), Jitterbug Jive (1950), Aladdin and the Magic Lamp (1936), The Old House (1936), The Little Match Girl (1937), Fable of the New Deal, Egyptian Daze
Thunderbean does these special blu-ray sets periodically with an interesting assortment of classic animation. The theme of this one seems a little more scattered than usual though.

9. Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)
Pretty decent sequel that while very predictable is also very watchable. Kung Fu Panda has proven to be Dreamworks' most consistent franchise property.

10. Little Witch Academia: Mahou Shikake no Parade (2015)
The very definition of light and breezy. Has some nice, fluid animation and is mildly entertaining despite the lack of depth.

11. Adventures of Cubby Bear (Thunderbean Animation) Set
This is one of Thunderbean's regular retail blu-ray sets, with the cartoons within looking pretty remarkable given their age. The cartoons themselves are pretty standard for the time period, constantly leaving me wondering what the deal with the animals in this world are. I mean, Cubby is obviously a bear but seems sentient and yet there are several shorts of him interacting with non-sentient animals (one even has him as a big game hunter). I dunno... It's just one of those Goofy/Pluto kind of things.

12. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (2016)
So fun! If you are even remotely a fan of the 60's Batman show and you haven't watched this, you are doing yourself a grave disservice. And if you weren't a fan, watch it anyway. You'd be hard-pressed to not leave this with a smile on your face.

13. Battle Angel Alita (1993)
Eh, this one just didn't do a whole lot for me. The animation was so-so and the plot felt derivative of other sci-fi films and TV I've seen before.

14. O Menino e o Mundo (2013)
I really dug this one. Vibrant art style and music bringing a lot of charm and a little pathos as well. The plot is on the abstract side, so it helps if you understand a little of the geo-political climate of Brazil going in.

15. Angry Birds (2016)
...And the winner for most wasted cast is... This one! So many good comedians in one long, pretty unfunny movie (with a sketchy anti-immigration message to go along with it). Also the red bird seemed less angry and more annoyed and sarcastic most of the time.

16. The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship (1990)
Nice stop motion movie based on a Russian folk tale. The story itself isn't going to blow anyone away with originality, but it's told and animated well.

17. Un monstre à Paris (2011)
Pretty solid sci-fi- adventure of a mutant flea that joins a band. Also there's a fame-hungry politician and two guys trying to set things right despite themselves. It's a fun movie that's worth watching.

18. Justice League Dark (2017)
Pretty solid DC animated movie that relies a little too heavily on magical action for my tastes. The plot wasn't mind-blowing but it did have some nice character moments. I'd say it's also the best representation of Constantine in non-book media. Between this and Return of the Caped Crusaders, it looks like DC has course-corrected after the lackluster JL vs Teen Titans and The Killing Joke.
