Horror Challenge
Posted Image

Goal:
Watch as many movies as you can that fit into the horror genre. If you are in doubt whether a movie counts or not, just ask.

Rules:
- A feature film (Anything over 45 minutes) counts as one entry
- A total of 90 minutes of short films count as one entry
- For Mini-Series (45 minute episodes or longer) each episode counts as an entry.
- For Mini-Series with shorter episodes (25 minutes or so), the 90 minute rule applies.
- Rewatches allowed.
- If Gary starts watching a movie on the 30 September and finishes on the 1 October, he will be disqualified from the French challenge and horror challenge because he is lame.

Challenge runs from 1 October 2011 - 31 October 2011.

ormazd's doesn't show neither his nor my ratings... I exported all my ratings and I see my ratings column there.
So it looks like some sort of bug or something since there are no options to add/remove columns under Create list settings...
If anyone has a clue I would appreciate to hear from them :)

In and I'm gonna kill everyone, last two years I've done this I've averaged about 145 movies so be prepared.

Also, how about episodes of Masters of Horror, would those count as a full length movie (Each one is about an hour) since they basically are or are they not allowed?

I'd say they're allowed.

I'm in as well, been looking forward to this one for while. I don't have a target as such but want to hit 100 if possible. I guess I've just contradicted myself!

I've been taking it easy this month and I'm starting to get film withdrawals!

Is there an easy way of seeing which films are horrors on the different lists? I think I could create separate lists on imdb and then sort by genre but that seems to be a bit time consuming. Obviously I will concentrate on the 500 horror list but would be nice to tick off films on other lists as well.

There is not. Though you can find the most popular horror films on IMDb and check manually if they are on lists.

I'm in!

I have a target of 66. That will get me a bronze on the horror list of 500. Not sure why I haven't seen more already. Actually I DO know. I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of these as a kid, and even if I was, my brother was scared of so much, we walked out of several scary movies. So stupid... but I'll try to make up for it. There's a bunch on TCM. I can repost my list here (of horror films showing on TCM during October that are valid checks) if that will help anyone.

Several films I requested from my library have already come in. Therefore I will be starting watching horror films already. I will not count it toward the challenge until October 1. However, of course, I will be checking the films I have seen and my target will probably decrease to 63 or 60 if I am able to knock some out beforehand.

I have loooaaads of films coming in from the library to watch.

I watched these last night (but they don't count):

-Hound of the Baskervilles (1959)
-Stir of Echoes (1999)

Watched:
The Haunting (I) (1963)

It is valid for a check, but I am not counting it for horror month. It underwhelmed me, but had the feeling of a good movie some of the time. I was surprised how many lists it was on. Had seen the remake years ago. 6/10

I love the original Haunting, one of the best haunted house films ever, easily a 10/10 for me.

The remake, however, was a piece of shit. 1/10

Agreed on the remake -- what a piece of garbage! I love Lili Taylor in a lot of films (Dogfight is one more people should see!), but I think we did bad impressions of her (and other cast members) for at least a week after we saw it.

I like the original a lot, though I probably wouldn't give it a 10.

I'd give it an 8 myself. I'd give Lili Taylor a 1/10 though. I find her repulsive, I can't stand looking at her. Plus she has the personality of a dead moth.
