1. Skyfall (2012) 6/10
Nominated for:
Best Achievement in Cinematography
Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score
Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song
Best Achievement in Sound Editing
Best Achievement in Sound Mixing

Not a fan of James Bond. Really don't understand the big deal. The character is such a nothing Mary Sue who bores me to death. Not to mention that every Bond is ugly as sin. Some fun action scenes and is moderately entertaining, but whatever.

Also, I feel like I'm living in another world here in Australia. Whenever I see shots of the London Eye and those bridges (or any other place I've been overseas), I'm like 'I'VE WALKED ON THOSE BRIDGES!'.

2. Reise der Hoffnung (1990) 5/10
Won:
Best Foreign Language Film

I started watching Anna Karenina and couldn't get past the first 5 minutes, so decided to move on. I found this too melodramatic though. Not a bad film or anything and parts of it were interesting (especially as it was based on a true story), but it was too in-your-face and I just couldn't get genuinely involved with it.

Basically what I expected. Visually very nice and mildly entertaining, but the story is typical regurgitated simple trash and brings nothing new to the table.

Yawn. Another typical 'children grow up so fast in the war' type of film. Felt manipulative and annoying.

I wanted to work on the oscar winners somewhere this year, so I guess this is as good an excuse as any, I'm in.

But why o why did I start with :'(

1. Cimarron (1931) (Best Picture winner)

No doubt the worst of the bunch I've seen so far.
