Not my favorite genre, but I've been working on the 100 westerns list bit by bit for awhile now and have 13 to go for a bronze. I'm in.

Dunno how I'll do with a steady diet of the things, but I found some spoofs I hadn't seen to add to the list.
(Recommend West and Soda, Bruno Bozzetto's animated takeoff on the "Man with no name" series - on KG.)

I don't know how to search on ICM. Amid all the zillions of Westerns lists there doesn't seem to be an "official checks" list. But I guess the 500 westerns list will do.

Passively in.

I have about 15 westerns sitting in queues, etc. If I can watch the 15 I'll be content, if I watch 20 I'll be pleased.

I'll watch a few. In a mood for Westerns. Already saw two good ones today (And I just realised that the avatar I chose a couple of days ago is from a Spaghetti Western, must be my subconscious).

1. McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) - After watching this realised I hadn't seen a film from Altman before  But this was a pretty good revisionist western, dunno if this makes sense but found it a strangely meditative watch. Could work even better on a rewatch and with a more relaxed state of mind that I had.

2. Johnny Guitar (1954) - Really good stuff all around. Great cast (not usually a fan of Crawford's, but she was really good in this), interesting characters, Ray's directing was great too. And then you have all the stuff about women's role in the wild west and the stuff about mob behavior and whatnot.

I think I'll do this in conjunction with another challenge at another site.

I've only got 2 westerns left on the imdb list and I've completed all the others.

01. The Gun Hawk : Pretty consistent western. Kas's comment on its icm page got be interested "Fantastic western, recommended by Jean-Luc Godard and Martin Scorsese, so you can't go wrong. "

02. The Night Passage : Another decent James Stewart starer , with Audie Murphy pitching in with a somewhat charming role.

03. Last man Standing

3. Ride the High Country (1962) - I had read comments about this being a pretty tame film by Peckinpah's standards and that's surely what it is. In fact, it's a pretty tame and forgettable Western by any standards. Not exactly a dull watch, the landscapes are pretty to look at and there are some nice, darker moments - though many of them severely undermined by the crappy score - but overall a bit meh.
I'm planning to watch other Peckinpah's Westerns for the challenge, at least I think I can be fairly sure they will be better than this (only seen The Wild Bunch beside this, and it's pretty great).

I'll count it, as imdb says it's a western, but it wasn't, really...

01 - Just Pals, by John Ford (1920) 6/10

Pretty nice story about a good-hearted hobo taking care of a child. Not very Fordian, and it made me think of Borzage Lazybones, which I largely prefer.

02 - The Last Sunset, by Robert Aldrich (1961) 8/10

Great script by Dalton Trumbo, a very good, not so classic, western.

That sister of yours, Stribling, was just a free drink on the house and nobody went home thirsty. I mean nobody!

3. The tin star (57)
Why do they always say Anthony Perkins is gearing up for Psycho (in this, Friendly Persuasion, Desire under the Elms, The Trial, Fear Strikes Out, La glaive et la balance, etc. etc., etc.)? Well, I guess a couple of these are post-Psycho but I don't consider him a one-note actor.

Enjoyed this - and all I've seen so far.

A young Bert Reynolds in the title role, great music, entertaining, not that great a film though another spaghetti western but one I had recorded on TV from TCM which is almost a Western channel in the UK
