In general I think no rewatches is a good rule, but I like the rule from the anime series challenge - if you've only seen part of a TV series, then you're allowed to start from the beginning of the series (because if you watched 1 episode 5 years ago, it wouldn't make sense to continue from where you left off).

I don't feel strongly about it, so if everyone wants to allow rewatches then it's ok with me, but I'll be annoyed if someone wins the challenge entirely through rewatches. How about counting them as a half-entry?

I'm aiming to complete the available Kinema films so I'll take part in this. 40 films to go currently. Hopefully one or two less by the time the challenge starts. Aiming to complete it in April but March would be great.

I'm six ahead at the now so keep the trojan on hold but if he starts to catch up then, yes, it could come in handy.

I see he's taking part in this challenge so he'll probably watch two or three a day now...unless he sticks to anime shows.

I would consider it to be a Russian film. Even though Kurosawa directed it, it has russian actors, was filmed in Russia and Mosfilm produced it.

1. SarubÍji maisu (2011) 7/10 - Savage Mice. "Don't disrespect Hiroshima!" Nice film about a woman labeled as a thief returning treasures to their owners. When her partner betrays her, she looks for a person to replace him while trying to stop him from stealing more valuables.

2a. Attack on Titan episode 1 (24 min) 6/10
2b. Attack on Titan episode 2 (24 min) 6/10
2c. Attack on Titan episode 3 (24 min) 7/10 - I like the potato girl

My friends have been addicted to this show for the past few months and they still can't shut up about it, so I'll probably finish it within the week.

Not Mizoguchi's best, but still worth watching. Reminded me of Pandora's box.

3. Shingeki no Kyojin (2013) - Attack on Titan episodes 4-6 (72 minutes)
3a. Attack on Titan episode 4 (24 min) 6/10
3b. Attack on Titan episode 5 (24 min) 6/10
3c. Attack on Titan episode 6 (24 min) 6/10

More action and deaths occurred, but I'm not a fan of the animation style. I shouldn't be laughing at things that are eating people.

A "titan"

At least there is some more character development. If only all the show had more Sasha moments (the only character I passionately like).

01 - Kimi to wakarete / Apart from you, by Mikio Naruse (1933) 8/10

A strong drama about a geisha trying to raise her teen-age son. Quite well-done.
I'm glad rewatches are allowed, as I meant to rewatch Ran for some time...

1. Hura g‚ru / Hula Girls (2006, Sang-il Lee)

In hindsight, yes, clearly formulaic in plot development, but it still felt special. It's atmosphere, charm and the way it handled some pretty dark material, it thoroughly won me over. Sang-il Lee is definitely a talented director I should try to see more from. 8/10.

2. Taiji ga mitsuryŰ suru toki / The Embryo Hunts in Secret (1966, KŰji Wakamatsu)

I had almost forgotten how twisted Wakamatsu was. This is yet another utterly masochistic journey that can make you cream in agony and truly hate humanity (honestly, if a someone not Japanese were to only watch Wakamatsu films they'd probably fear Japan like the plague). Of course, it's Wakamatsu, so dialog, plotting, etc. is also weak - so it has little to deliver intellectually. Unlike many other directors of the Japanese New Wave who approached themes like this, Wakamatsu tends to focus on the pornographic aspect of it, which is sickening, though I could be wrong in my judgment. It did somewhat redeem itself in the end, and I will give it a lot of credit for getting me so engaged I was essentially just screaming at the scream (well, ok, internally screaming). 5/10.

3. Nasu: Andalusia no natsu / Nasu: Summer in Andalusia (2003, Kitaro Kosaka)

Really good and well animated anime about a bicycle race. Focusing on a sole contestant racing towards his home town, most likely getting fired due to disagreements with the team's number one racer. On the same day his estranged elder brother is getting married, and friends and family is following him race. It's simple, charming and quite entertaining. Pretty much everything you'd need. 7/10.
