I'm in. I had some grandiose ideas but as it's National Poetry Writing Month I'll probably focus mainly on the French silents on SBNF list.

I watch several French films nearly every month, so I'll throw whatever I hit in April here. No numerical goal.

Just to confirm: this is only for films from France, yes? Not French-language films (from, say, Belgium, Senegal, etc.)? I don't care either way -- I just don't want to post the wrong stuff -- I have a Chantal Akerman due to hit my house early this coming week, so I'm checking. :)

Thanks for hosting!

You should perhaps add a parenthesis next to my list (Kasparius' list), so people don't think it's actually a credible list :P

I was tempted to just make it Lahaie pornos and the films of Rollin and Borowczyk, but only 1/3rd of that sounds like a good idea.

I might see the porno Sensations just cause of the amazing poster. I'm also planning to see Femmes, femmes which isn't one but it's directed by Paul Vecchiali who also directed Change pas de main. It was flawed as hell but it was the first porno that I didn't dislike so that's a pretty big achievement.

I hope you don't need subs for Le Film est déjà commencé

Yes, French language is okay. We always have French festivals or French film weeks here in L.A. and the films are from all over. I saw a film from Senegal recently (Tey/Aujourd'hui/Today) and the director made the film in Senegal, but was living in Paris. There was also a film I saw at the French film festival last year made by a French/Swede woman that took place mainly in Sweden and I was going, what? But apparently they marketed it to French film goers.

Nah, unless you insist. I checked all the lists again before I re-posted them (same ones from last year). The only dead link was the Jean-Paul Belmondo filmography list. :( Kinda sad about that.

Actually, since I'm not a mod/admin, I can't change the title, but I changed the "rules" to specify French language.

Just realized that you can watch only trash with this challenge like Jean Rollin or something shitty like Emmanuelle. I know it won't count as it's still March, but I'm in the mood for something trashy tonight, and I'll try out a film by José Bénazéraf. The film L'enfer dans la peau looks interesting (It's called Nuit la plus longue on KG). The screenshots look cool and I saw it described as a minimalist exploitation with class.

Not April yet so I won't count it, but goddamn that film was so amazing. I'll just talk about it here.

La nuit la plus longue [Sexus] (1965) - José Bénazéraf (It's called L'enfer dans la peau in icm for some reason) - 9/10

This actually didn't really feel like exploitation at all, except it does have a decent amount of nudity. It was closer to French New Wave, but it has its own style rather than following the trends of that genre. It's one of those simple and straightforward crime films. Straight to the point and very engaging. It's quiet with repetitive shots, but the atmosphere and tension of a few scenes made this a very interesting watch. Not to mention the great score which consists of cool percussions and a few Chet Baker-like trumpet solos. I was really surprised to find out that Jose went on to make pornos a few years after this. And yes, at least one of them has Lahaie.

José Bénazeraf is an even worse director than Jean Rollin. Art continuing his descent into madness.

I was actually gonna ignore those :\ but my curiosity is getting the better of me and I'd like to see if it still has awesome directing skills. They're all probably straight or lesbian stuff anyways, so not for me.

Thanks for reminding me, there's still a few more Rollin films that I should see. La vampire nue et La morte vivante.

Also if you could give me a list of French artsploitation directors that are even worse than Bénazeraf, that'll be awesome. I could probably find tons of masterpieces this way.

You could try Max Pecas and Raphael Delpard. Delpard you might love La nuit de la mort and Clash.

Pecas: Brigade des moeurs et on se calme et on boit frais à St. Tropez.

The first shot of Brigade des mœurs is a pov tracking shot of transvestites in Les bois, flashing their penis to a prospective John.

I'm also in. Although I, as the greenhorn that I am, have a little question. When numbering films do I count shorts as separate entries or do I group them in 60 minutes groups?
Example: 1. Short 01 + Short 02
OR
1. Short 01
2. Short 02

I just wasn't sure if I should number then all in the same place, since having a entry like this

1. Short 01 + Short 02 +...+...+...+...+...+...+...+...+...+Short 12

would be confusing.
