Personally, I don't mind whether it's a total of 40 minutes or 60 minutes of shorts.

What's everyone else's preference? 40 or 60?

I'm ok with either one, but I'd prefer 60, since it's closer to the average length of a feature film, and it also means I can spend more time watching and less time posting entries.

I'll be focusing more on anime titles then anything else (gonna bag a few more freeleech torrents from BakaBT to that end), although I'll surely find room for other stuff. Maybe I'll finally watch Ernest & Celestine.

about 55 Urusei eps+11 of that body series are scheduled for June
so 66*roughly24min/60=26 (or do only every 3 episodes count as 1 point?)

Everything on BakaBT is free. Just download the .torrent file while signed out and it won't affect your ratio.

Of the films on the OFCS list that you haven't seen, I suggest watching these 4:
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Perfect Blue
The Last Unicorn
Watership Down

Also, be sure to avoid the Transformers movie at all costs.

Compared to the series, it's a masterpiece! (and to the Michael Bay sequels as well)

I've seen neither the series nor the Michael Bay movies, but I'd give the anime movie a 1/10. I guess if I watched the series, I'd probably give it a -14/10.

Harsh. Soundtrack kicks ass

Take a look at Beast Wars Transformers on YouTube. Now that's the pits. IMDb 8.2

I don't give out 1/10s easily, but I think it deserves it. There are only 2 or 3 anime feature films (out of 238) that I would give a 1/10. I'd give Run! White Wolf a 1/10, but it suffered from a horrible English dub so I'm not sure if it's a fair rating. The other one is A Tree of Palme, but at least it had decent animation, so maybe I'd give it a 2/10.

1. Hells (2008) 4/10
I like the rough and jagged animation style, although I'm not so sure it works at 1080p. Unfortunately the anime itself is very incoherent and ultimately boring.

2. Summer in Andalusia (2003) 6/10
A simple cycling-themed anime with Ghibli influences. Enjoyable but conventional.

It was a little better than The Secret of Kells, but I have the same complaint. Good animation, but the story could've been better.

Time to get this party started!

1. Yellow Submarine (1968) 7/10
I had seen bits and pieces of this before on VH1 back in the 90's and had thought I was just seeing random nonsense out of context. But no, it is random nonsense from a plotting standpoint. On the positive side though, the music is great and the actual animation really captures the ridiculously psychedelic color palette of the era with tons of imagination. I have to think this was at least partially an influence on Terry Gilliam's work (although probably not as much as Heaven & Earth Magic).

2. Gulliver's Travels (1939) 5.5/10
Notable for being the first full length animated movie not released by Disney (at least as far as I am aware), this is definitely the work of Fleischer, capturing many of the hallmarks of his numerous shorts with fluid animation, a less mature but more playful tone than Disney and an overly simplistic plot that ignores 2/3rds of the Gulliver's Travels book. While it isn't a terrible movie by any means, it failed to engage me in any meaningful way.

3a. Dragon's Lair (1984) 3.5/10
I have the DVD editions of the Dragon's Lair I & II and Space Ace games with the option to watch all the animation (including death scenes it clocks in around 25 minutes) without playing the frustratingly terrible game itself. For the first Dragon's Lair, the animation is definitely characteristic of Don Bluth (although much stiffer given the interaction of the gameplay elements to interupt the flow of the animation) but because of the nature of the game, the plot is ridiculously simplistic and becomes repetitive from just a purely entertainment standpoint.

3b. American Dad S9E3
I find American Dad to be much more consistent in tone and entertainment value than Family Guy.

3c. Gravity Falls S1E3
Man, Gravity Falls is a great show. Reminds me of a wackier, animated Eerie, Indiana.

4. Sen'ya ichiya monogatari (1969) 6.5/10
Man, I'm really wishing I hadn't watched this and Yellow Submarine in the same day. Like YS, 1001 Nights was visually trippy, weirdly plotted and borderline incoherent. While it had some interesting themes at play, it never really coalesced into something meaningful for me. The animation quality I also found pretty inconsistent, which was fairly typical of anime from this time period (or really any time period for that matter). Still, I could see traces of genius in what Tezuka and company were trying to do.

Animation Watched

It's not the first. I've seen 4 earlier ones:

Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed (1926)
Le roman de Renard (1930)
Novyy Gulliver (1935)
Die sieben Raben (1937)

However, it is the first non-Disney cell-animated feature film (as far as I know).

Ah, yea. Thanks for the correction. I was thinking cell-animated actually. I've seen Adventures of Prince Achmed and story of the fox, so I know it wasn't the first animated regardless of style of animation.
