In case anyone missed my post in the other thread, make sure you watch the new DVD rip of Heroic Times and not the old TV rip. Here are some screenshot comparisons. In each pair of images, the old TV rip is 1st and the new DVD rip is 2nd.

I'm planning to rewatch it, since when I watched it there was only a TV rip.

Well, should I vote for my own nomination or for an animated movie? Hard choice since you all know how much I love animation.

:P
Nah, just kidding. Heroic Times looks like the kind of animation I do enjoy once in a while. I'll watch it in a couple of days and then I see if I need to rewatch Ni Liv.

I watched Ni Liv during the DTC period last year and did not fall for it. I re-watch it for the Cup recently but it seems that nothing has changed.

Judging from the screenshots I think I'll like Heroic Time, but it's still too early to tell.

Well, if I vote for the wrong film again, Joachim may start considering if he needs to delete one of his alter egos. But man, so far it's Hungary vs Dutch-Chinese-Greek Trio.

This match will be animation's chance to get revenge on you for not watching enough animation. I guess both of my matches will be revenge matches (the other one is monty vs Turkey).

You've only favorited 2 animated films on iCM, and one of them is a paint-animated film by Aleksandr Petrov. I'd say there's definitely a chance that you'll vote against your nomination. According to this review, Gemes got some help from Petrov when he was making Heroic Times.

It's very appropriate that my Turkish nomination is like a western. The match will end with a 10-minute Mexican standoff between monty and Yilmaz Guney. It'll be the match that decides the winner of a lifelong rivalry.

I love Daliás idők's visuals, but besides ... Crappy nationalist themes and immature emotions, all of this obviously heavily inspired by the 19th century poem it was based on. Not a huge fan. This would've worked splendid if I were 15, but it feels quite shallow now, to be honest.

Still got to see Ni liv.

I found the style of Heroic Times very memorizing. Did I like the film? I'm not sure. I got tired of seeing the same frame of the girl's face. I do know I enjoyed it more than Ni Liv.

The story of Daliás Idök was a bit thin too me and some of the scenes are re-used (the horse animations a.o.).
Ni Liv is holding up well compared to the hollywood war-dramas of the same period.

I am a sucker for Animated movies esp paint-on-glass. So it's no surprise that I liked Heroic Times and gave it a 8. The story is not so great, but I was happy that

This is funny. I actually think that Daliás idök is better than my nominee for Brazil and I was almost praying that I wouldn't go against Hungary that round.

You probably should have went with this mjf314: https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/az+en+xx.+szazadom/

After first watching Ni liv I was afraid I had to vote against Norway, cause Heroic Times seemed like it had a lot of potential. Luckily I didn't have to.

1. Ni liv
2. Dalias idok

For the first 20 or so minutes of "Dalias idok" it looked like this would be a close call. Unfortunately, the movie was spoiled by the incessant, flowery narration, and by the schmaltzy, repetitive story.

"Ni liv" OTOH, had a gripping story, though it's been a while since I watched it.

1. Daliás idök aka Heroic Times
2. Ni liv aka Nine Lives

Ni Liv - 6.5/10

Incredible tale about human persistence, but the movie is lacking something (don't know exactly what, emotion maybe).

Daliás idök - 7/10

Gorgeous animation, but I didn't connect to the story.

Why? I really liked the animation of Daliás idök. Ni liv had problems as well (for me).

In the end I liked Daliás idök just a little bit more.

Some people felt the same way about Letter Never Sent. I don't find it strange. If the visuals are good enough, then the visuals alone can be enough to enjoy a film.

I liked the story of Heroic Times, but I watched it a long time ago so I don't really remember it well.

While both had impressive elements, neither would be particular favourites for me. Heroic Times gets the edge as the animation style was quite beautifully done.

I'm still planning to rewatch Heroic Times, but I might as well vote now, since I already prefer Heroic Times based on the poor quality version. If the rewatch somehow makes me like it less, which is unlikely, then I can always change my vote.

Yeah I guess you are right. Even with a weak story, the animation was nice, aside from the repeating images as others have mentioned.

For me, those repeated sequences caused flashback dread of another animated film I saw. That one was way worse though as it seemed to be composed of 95% recycled images. I blame it for my lack of enjoyment of Heroic Times. :)
