missed a few rounds but watched these two...

1. Demons
2. Reconstruction

didn't really go for Reconsruction's style. Demons was well done, sometimes a little too theatrical for my taste but memorable & distinctive.

Shura will win already, no doubt about that. What I wanna get out of this instead is the chance of watching another good Danish film. It seems like a really stylized movie, but who knows it might be good.

For the record, I already said before this started that Shura was the better film, and I even recommended picking Shura before I knew Denmark would be playing Japan. :folded:

Denmark has a lot of good films, but only few great ones. Whoever can name a Danish film with less than 1,000 checks that will definitely win from Shura deserves eternal praise.

Reconstruction is at least decent.

In the next cup Denmark, Poland, Brazil and Czech Republic should be put in Pot 1 instead of China, Iran, Sweden and Canada to set the things right.

Reconstruction actually has a higher forum rating than Shura.

Reconstruction: http://themagician.host56.com/highestrated/search/#search=tt0366943
Shura: http://themagician.host56.com/highestrated/search/#search=tt0165473

I wish I could see the individual ratings. It might be a case of 1 or 2 people bringing the rating down. I have a feeling Shura will have a higher rating after this match is over.

Burma VJ: Reporter i et lukket land is the highest rated eligible Danish film on Mubi, and it also has a 7.5 forum rating, but I guess it's not really Danish enough because it's about Burma.

1. 修羅 [Pandemonium/Demons] (1971) 9/10 (my highest ranked 9/10)
2. Reconstruction (2003) 6/10 Yea, too stylized for me but I still enjoyed it.

EDIT: I would have went with this for Denmark: https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/himmelskibet/ I'm assuming that Gershwin only thought it was meh.

But just imagine if Gershwin went with this for Denmark and Kidnapping, Caucasian Style for Russia. 1910s and a shitty comedy that's popular in its country. Now THAT'S SOMEONE WITH GUTS

My PSI on Criticker for Reconstruction is higher than for Shura (80 vs 73) and this time I think it's right. I already favorited Reconstruction. I loved the style and the chemistry between the two leads. I was really sucked into the surrealistic story. It left me with several questions afterwards but in a good way. 9/10

I'm not finished watching Shura yet, but so far I don't enjoy it as much as Reconstruction.

Doro no kawa got first six votes in the group stage, and that gives an equivalent of 12-0!

Japan's current vote ratio is 47/5 and looks like it'll be even better when this match is over.

Japan is terrifying.

Didn't like the Danish too-clever-by-half existentialist experimental film one bit. It's a sterile, irritating, tedious and rather pretentious mental exercise which never allows for the development any sort of emotional impact on the viewer. Not a fan of this sort of oblique arthouse cinema at all. Oh, and the overuse of Barber's Adagio For Strings felt like an aural cliché.

An easy choice then:

1.Shura (1971) 9/10
2. Reconstruction (2003) 3.5/10

Loved the Danish too-clever-by-half existentialist experimental film. It's the opposite of a sterile, irritating, tedious and rather pretentious mental exercise which constantly allows for the a development of any sort of emotional impact on the viewer. Big fan of this sort of oblique arthouse cinema. Oh, and the overuse of Barber's Adagio For Strings really fit the general mood. Brilliant movie!

Shura was good as well. 8/10

1. Reconstruction
2. Shura

I have already seen both of them and I will definitely go with Reconstruction. My problem is t hat I watched it back in 2003 so I am planning to rewatch it. I gave a 9 back then. Shura on the ot her hand was unimpressive to say t he least. Just a 6 for me and I watched it quite recently.
I wont vote right now because I want to rewatch reconstruction before voting, although it is impossible to lower my voting t hat much. Never say never of course, but just saying. I just wanted to make it clear that Reconstruction has some supporters so that people will be interested to watch them. More voters!

I have to admit it was easier voting for Greece in the first round, where Russia was already in the lead.

That's it, game's over. Even the manager votes against Denmark. I guess we can start round 3 now. <_<

Not seriously of course. I just hope more people than my(Greek)self will vote for Denmark. On the other hand, Japan is one of my favorite movie countries, so I'd be glad if it got into the final round. Let's hope Russia and Japan don't meet each other earlier.

1. Reconstruction
2. Demons

As I said in another thread, Demons is a successful film in his own, and very restricted, way. The extremely stylized way.
On the contrary, Reconstruction is unsuccessful, it doesn't work on every level (mainly the author's part), but I think it's both intriguing and beautiful to look at.

Lighting in Shura is much prettier sight to look at. If only more films were lit in that fashion.
