iCM Forum's Favourite Movies of the 1970s
Posted Image

The 1970s were a decade in the last century. A lot of stuff happened then. There were wars, elections, uprisings, crises and scandals. People were born and died. Sport matches were won and lost. Things were invented. Trends came and went. This is a lists of our favorites movies made during that decade.

Thanks to the following 60 voters

Nomination thread
Half-life was 50.

Can you dig it?

Decided to only put my favourites in my list, as opposed to that and my 7/10s. I'm curious to see what will happen.

Use the IF function to display one of two possible strings (depending on whether the condition is true or false). To test if a cell is empty, compare it to "", for example if the aka title is in cell G1, then somewhere in the middle of your formula it would say something like

IF(G1="","","("&G1&") ")

I liked the decade description as well, though you could also mention it as the main hippy era in your initial post I suppose, since it's literally the hippies/"drugs became more popular than ever" decade. Man seemed to want more than ever to live freely without constraints and this definitely showed in most parts of the world. At least that's my take on it. xD

PS : Hurray for the Herzog documentary that already appeared on the list, I loved it. xD

Since I will be recalculating the result anyhow, maybe Jay Mars wants to replace the 1922 Nosferatu in his list with the Herzog version? ;)

Why replace? :O Both films are amazing .
I always include both in my lists, but I still value the silent one a bit higher, since it's much harder to attain that atmosphere without speech. A great leap in cinema for it's time that God knows how many filmmakers were inspired by it.

Maybe because this is a list of our favorite movies of the 70s and not our all time?

So I assume Jay added the wrong version to his list by mistake and not making a statement about how a rerelease of the Murnau version should be included in the 1970s list (if there was a rerelease in the 1970s)

Do you guys feel I should replace Jay Mars Nosferatu on his list, when he doesn't respond before tonight, since it's highly probably a mistake? On the other hand I don't feel like I should be messing with people's lists.

On top of that, the hippies were actually way more of a sixties thing. The seventies was the decade of disillusion with the hippie dream.

Yes it's filled with irony but still. :)
Indeed they did start on the mid-sixties or something, but 70s were filled with them right from the beginning. I agree about the disillusionment part of course.

After recalculating the results and getting a new filmcount.csv what is the best way to add the columns with points, voters, imdb url and voters from that file into my existing results Excelsheet, but so that the columns correspond to the right title, year, director and so on? So I don't have to import export everything again to imdb and icheckmovies to get the titles and so on again in the correct order.

You could use VLOOKUPs, but adding the lists to iCM and IMDb again might be easier, especially since you'll have to do that anyway.

But al lot of image urls are in the wrong cells now. There should be an easy way to automatically correct that instead of going through them all manually.

(I have two excelsheets now one with the previous results and one with the new results)
