I'd join if TSPDT21 were included but if it's just the one list I'll pass.

I haven't thought of that list, I'm willing to add it as well.

Does anyone oppose ?

clemmentary, I think it's a departure from previous practice, so please allow plenty of time for input. If people prefer to stick to one list, I reckon there will at least be an unofficial 2010s challenge down the pike.

I don't have many left on TSPDT, so 21st Century would be good. I was working on 21st Century for awhile, but I still have plenty more to watch (waiting for an update though. I'm sure many of these films will fall off).

In. I'll try to get silver, that means 27 titles. I don't see why 21st Century list should be included, that's a different challenge. Will we add TSPDT 1000 Noirs then?

I'm easy either way (not as into offical checks as I was, so my participation is immaterial). As Alison notes, an update is due in March. Maybe we should have an ongoing unofficial 21st-century challenge after that?

I just mean I have no interest in working on the TSPDT list (tho if I happen to watch any I'll try to remember to report them) but do feel I should watch more 21st century films on general principles.

1. Two-lane blacktop (Hellman, 1971) - Austere road movie across the USA with somewhat aloof characters, plenty of noisy horse power but no safety belts. 7/10

Well, after much thought, I decided not to add TSPDT21 because, as mentionned, this challenge is for the top 1000 only, not for all the lists TSPDT released.
Maybe someone could create an unofficial ungoing challenge for the 21st list ?

OK, Clem. Thanks for considering it. There has been talk of an unofficial 21st-cent challenge so I reckon it will happen sooner or later.

1. Zendegi va digar hich / Life and Nothing More... (1992, Abbas Kiarostami) 8/10

After a devastating earthquake a man and his son travel through the heavily hit area, in the search of a young boy who was the lead in an earlier Kiarostami film shot in that region. On their way they briefly encounter people who have lost everything, but still carry on and deal with their grief in their own way. Great film on the verge between fiction and documentary about human perseverance.

He saw those films, didn't he?

01. Bigger than life, by Nicholas Ray (1956) 7,5/10

Beautiful technicolor for a rather politically incorrect movie... James Mason is really a wonderful actor.

1. The Conversation (1974) 7/10
Great characters, a very pleasant story.

2. Shadows (1959) 6/10
Didn't felt much connections to the characters here sadly.

3. Le plaisir (1952) 7/10
The last story was too short but really good.

2. Zire darakhatan zeyton / Through the Olive Trees (1994, Abbas Kiarostami) 8/10

One-upping the meta level. A fake documentary about the shooting of the fake documentary about revisitng a former film location. We still get to see how the people perserve after the terrible earthquake that hit that region. We are bit further removed this time, seeing glimpses of the future and rebuilding, concentrated in the story of a young poor guy who tries to use the chance that everyone is on level playing field after the catastrophe to convince a girl who would have been above his social circle before to marry him. Kiarostami has just such a good grasp on quiet moments and wonderful long takes.

He saw those films, didn't he?
