1.The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter 7/10 Great doc on how women were instrumental during WWII.
2. Put the Camera on Me 5/10 Home movie footage of a little-known movie director. It would sort of work if you knew the person, but not compelling enough for me to get that into it.

Poor in presentation, but it's not by a professional filmmaker. Still eye-opening reminder than lack of regulation is a bad thing and Dick Cheney is a bad, bad person.

1. Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991)
Tour documentary that veers between dull pampering, stagy drama and highly sexualized concert performances... Meh

2. Histoire(s) du cinema: Toutes les histoires (1988)
3a. Histoire(s) du cinema: Une histoire seule (1989)
3b. Histoire(s) du cinema: Seul le cinema (1997)
Godard at his most self-indulgent and pretentious. The rest of this is going to be a slog...

4. Faces of Death (1978)
Pointless animal cruelty, dull autopsy footage and stuff that feels like it wouldn't be out of place on TruTV (shootouts, car accidents, etc.).

This challenge isn't starting great for me......

1a. Par desmit minutem vecaks Ten Minutes Older (Herz Frank, 1978) Ten minutes of kids reactions to what I've read is a puppet show; pretty intense puppetry if the reactions are any indication. 10 min.
1b. Wszystko moze sie przytrafic Anything Can Happen (Marcel Lozinski, 1995) Some poignant stuff; "kid's will say the darndest things" dropped into a senior center nature preserve. 40 min.
1c. Necrology (Standish Lawder, 1971) Interesting concept; was a little let-down when I found that the credits were fictitious (obviously). 10 min.

3. Roman Polanski Wanted And Desired 5.5/10
about the court case. overlong, not much interesting

Jackson Pollock 51 (11min) 2nd check! re-enacted in the Pollock movie

About the comedian who had a series of tragedies, including breast cancer, and managed to create a memorable set. Kinda meandered a bit with a forced narrative.

5b. Histoire(s) du cinéma: La monnaie de l'absolu (1998)
5c. A Portrait of Ga (1952)

6. Grey Gardens (1975)
Interesting character profile of a couple of eccentrics.

7. The Decline of Western Civilization (1981)
Gives a great sense of the punk scene in the late 70's. Lots of solid music as well.

8. Big Easy Express (2012)
Hm... good enough if you are into the bands being showcase. I happen to like them alright.

9. The Man Whose Mind Exploded (2012)
Another interesting character profile of a guy with anterograde amnesia (can't make new memories) that makes the ladies of Grey Gardens look like the most well-adjusted people on the planet.

3. Ryakushô renzoku shasatsuma/ A.K.A. Serial Killer (1969) 5/10 I didn't like the slow, meditative style of the doc. It seemed to go against its subject matter (serial killer).
4. Délits flagrants - Okay documentary. Good "interviews" but I also felt that something was missing or that there was a lack of focus (there were a lot of interviews, moving from person to person).

With this film Masao Adachi invented the "landscape theory."

Quote:

Among Adachi's most audacious and chilling works, AKA: Serial Killer was the film that defined the "landscape theory" for which he is credited as one of the founders: the radical Marxist theory that the visible landscape around us, from its most picturesque to its most banal aspects, is a pure expression of the dominant political power. To demonstrate this theory embraced by a group of filmmakers and artists that notably included photographer Takuma Nakahira, Adachi focused on the story of a nineteen-year-old boy, Norio Nagayama, convicted for the 1969 murders of four people in four different Japanese cities. Led by Adachi's own sober voiceover reciting the facts of Nagayama's life, and accompanied by a bracing free jazz score, AKA: Serial Killer proceeds through a series of landscapes along the paths of the young killer's life and final rampage, an unrelenting, accusatory gaze fixed on the Japan nation itself as the environment that warped the young man into a frenzied assassin. Adachi's controlled structuralist film is often discussed for its anticipation of the topographical cinema of Straub-Huillet.

I read an article about that after watching the documentary.
Sad news, even though I did not feel any sympathy for the Siegels.
