I just copied the list from the wikipedia-page I listed below.

Films from French Guiana according to IMDb:

The list you copied is a "called" geoscheme list, not an administrative list. For these territories, there's a French flag and if you click on it, it explains that they are no "countries".

About IMDb, that's a common mistakes in the English world. For instance, in the NBA, some French players come from Guiana or Guadalupe. Is there an entry for Hawaii for instance? No. Same thing here.

An example with your so-called French Guiana film, Un parfum de LIban (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3447544/) a lot of informations are not correct (the language and the country). Here you can find all the French films and here it is:
http://www.unifrance.org/film/37432/un-parfum-de-liban

You can change all French Guiana films in IMDb database if you like, there's no such country, just like Hawaii is not a country but a state, part of the USA.

So what are some great films from Antigua, Caymans and Virgin Islands? Presumably of the off-shore variety.

So what exactly do you propose with this poll? Should I just exclude French Guiana from the list of eligible countries? Or are there other omissions?

Just remove tax havens and overseas territories that don't have a movie industry..

Yes, all territories from France, Holland, UK, USA or whatever should be removed, as the other ones without any production industries. Just keep the common big countries, and if participants watch a film from an Island, the question might be put on the table, but it's not necessarily to bring all these countries and territories while 99,999% of the production is elsewhere.

Or just include all countries which are include in the UNESCO list (unless the list is too exclusive, you'd know better than me here).

I see logic in excluding territories of France etc...
But there's no point in excluding little countries, because they don't have a lot of output. If someone watched a good movie from such a country, they can include it.

The countries from the Unesco-list is not a complete list, because some countries just failed to submit a list to Unesco before the deadline.

I think it won't hurt keeping all these territories on the list, but it won't hurt removing them either. Just be strict when you decide which individual films are eligible. Prevent similar cases to Blue or Rouge entering a Central European list and all will be fine.

What did I get myself into? I just started to go through the list of "countries" to see which should be excluded. But then I have to go through the history and politics of so many and I don't know where to draw the line. Some are a territory, others are somewhat independent countries like Aruba.

This is a movie poll, not a political debate. That list on Wikipedia says those countries/territories/regions/whatever are part of Latin America and the Caribbean, so they are eligible.

Relax, mate, leave them, I was just pulling your leg really.. the list will be dominated by the big names e.g. Brazil, Argentina anyway.

Well, that certainly are a lot of Caribbean countries.

Who cares if some of the islands virtually have no filmographies? Then they will not appear in the final results. Easy as that.

If there are debatable cases, like with the involvement of the USA or France, the eligibility can be discussed here. Normally, it's enough to ask yourself question: "Is this representative of or relevant to Latin American cinema?"

Otherwise, I surely won't participate in this. Have fun though!

Where do you see a political debate? Would you dare to pretend that French Guiana, Martinique or Guadalupe are countries? There's no political debate. As other said, let member decide, anyway if there's suspect entries à la Bleu-Rouge they won't make the cut. So why not just leaving all this list and let people decide which constitute a country. It's better to let people make their own mistakes than giving them help with incorrect informations.

although still very much a work in progress. I'm (somewhat) busy with Brazil at the moment. Have seen some classics from Venezuela and Peru earlier this year. And still more to see form the lists Cinema Tropical (at 23/125 now) and Cien años sin soledad (21/107)

I only have about 5 favourites from the complete region. I could make a list including all films I quite liked, but I don't think the list would benefit from that. Therefore I think I won't submit a list this time.

For country- en genre-polls I always add favorites + one point lower (my favs are 9 and 10, so I add 8 as well). Works fine with me.

What does it seem to you then? Spanish I guess?
Director is Mexican. Production-companies are Spain, Mexico and USA. Recorded in Spain. Most actors are Spanish.
But hey, it won the Ariel Award which is awarded to "excellence in motion picture making, such as acting, directing and screenwriting in Mexican cinema". I'll allow it.

Yep, I left them both on purpose. This is a very tricky case that goes back a long time ago, I don't really know how to handle this since obviously people are rating/checking the same film both on IMDb and iCM (and it cannot be removed as it's not a duplicate):

They are the same. Check their IMDb pages:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2700330/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1493943/
Apparently IMDb allows these 30 for 30 series to go as both individual episodes and separate documentaries.

Then what's the point of putting them both on it (even at different places of your list)? It's the same as putting a duplicate on your list, but in this case with different IMDB-urls.

Here's my list, not sure if people are going to include fitzcarraldo? It's coming up as Peruvian and was filmed there so that's why I've left it in for now but equally I can understand
If it needs to be removed

Really wanted to add Killed the Family and Went to the Movies for the title alone, but unfortunately it just isn't very good.

Mexican? I think this is an American movie, shot in Mexico.
