I'm in. I'll get it started. I have one goal: Finish off the Disney animated canon; that's not going to be hard to do, as I have all the ones I haven't seen yet. Other than that, who knows? Maybe finish off the cartoon list?

1. Dark Crystal

(Maybe This and This should be in the original post as well?)

Ok, I'm in. But I used may to catch up on many of the Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks movies, and I'm not going to see those again so soon.

At least I have a few left to complete the collection.

So what about movies like Song of the South or Who Framed Roger Rabbit where the animation is integrated? I have no way of counting if 50% of the frames have animation.

I’m in—going to try to get silver on the BFI list (currently at 68/99) and watch some more from the Disney canon.

/in - why not? Going to try to make the imdb Animation list my first ever platinum.

1. Sennen joyû {aka Millennium Actress} (2001)

Not a great start. I liked the epic scope of capturing the history of a country and all the layers therein. But the central premise of the power of a schoolgirl crush feels... dumb. Maybe I'm just not a romantic.

Those two are definitely allowed. When it's close, you may be generous. ;)

Normally I'd say probably not, but since it's on the animation list I wouldn't object.

Well, it's an effect shot. If we allow every movie with at least 50% effect shots then Green Lantern, Transformers and every other blockbuster is animation.

It was a different time when King Kong came out, but it isn't really transferable to today's moviemaking.

I'm am definitely in. The only official animated list I haven't finished is the Annecy one, so I may work on that in addition to just all the other random animated stuff I've accumulated over time.

Btw, in regards to whether certain films are eligible or not, can anyone speak to whether King of Jazz and Insititute Benjamenta would be eligible? I've never seen either and they both have the IMDB animation tag, but reading about them makes them sound like they may not be.

1. Chicken Little (2005) 4/10
Well, this was an underwhelming start to the challenge... Taking a bunch of lame pop songs, a totally random, unnecessary baseball side plot and Zach Braff at his Braff-iest, Chicken Little offers little of interest other than some mildly amusing jokes and a decent supporting cast.

2. Ernest et Celestine (2012) 7/10
Much better! Very sweet and beautifully animated. It's a simple story told well.

3a. Le petit soldat (1947)
3b. Crac (1981)
3c. Cafe Bar (1974)
3d. Monsieur Tete (1959)

3. Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (2003)

The art style reminded me of old anime like Galaxy Express 999. Unfortunately stuff like repetition of shots did too. I enjoy the Daft Punk music thought and Discovery works better as a soundtrack album.

So far...

Chicken Little is indeed bad, I had to look it up on my rankings and I rated only Treasure Planet and Home on the Range worse for Disney features. I forgot I had seen Ernest et Celestine, that is a really good film.

01. The Secret of Kells (2009) - 7/10. Beautiful animation and a lovely score, but the story is lacking, the ending is rushed and a character is sacrificed to move the story along. Maybe had I not seen Song of the Sea and had my expectations high for this film, I would liked it better.

Yea, I pretty much hated Home on the Range. I think I liked Treasure Planet a little more than Chicken Little though.

02. Mad Monster Party? (1967) 4/10 A stop-motion Rankin-Bass films staring classic horror villains should be good. Unfortunately, there is not much plot and disjointed scenes are placed next to each. Phyllis Diller is the Monster's Mate and other voice actors meant to imitate James Stewart, Peter Lorre, etc. get annoying after a while.

I'm in. I'll try for Gold on the Top 100 Animated Features and Silver on the BFI 100 Animated Feature Films.

1. Hotel Transylvania (2012)
Leagues better than most films involving Adam Sandler and his crew, but still a mediocre effort. The design of the monsters and the landscapes were impressive, but the jokes and story was firmly aimed at children and didn't have much appeal for me.

Definitely a drop in quality with the studio change. It has been interesting to see such a weak Superman though.

3. Gulliver's Travels (1939) - 4/10 too long and pretty mediocre.

4. Shrek the Third (2007) 4.5/10
This whole movie seems pretty phoned in. Mike Meyers especially sounded like his line readings were recording while waiting in line at the grocery store.

5. Mak Dau: Bo lo yau wong ji (2004) 7/10
Something about these oddball, cute McDull movies just strikes the right chord with me.

6. Hadashi no Gen (1983) 6.5/10
What Grave of the Fireflies conveys with the sad and subtle nuance of a heartache masking a deep bitterness Barefoot Gen smashes in the face with a sledgehammer and a broken party favor. While it's gut wrenching at times, its tonal inconsistency made it really hard to completely get invest in.

Surprisingly good :woot: It would have been even better without the live-action parts.

Is "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" (by the same directors) similar to this? Obviously, the visuals will be different.
